“Hold up, Casanova,” I said, pushing at his chest, my desire deserting me. “What the hell, does that mean?”

Kyle’s brow creased for a moment. “I was joking.”

“Some joke, Kyle,” I muttered.

Sliding off his desk, I dressed quickly.

“Lee, where are you going?”

He grabbed for me. “Come on, baby, it was a joke.”

I yanked away from him.

“Are you going to give me my job back?” I asked, hands on my hips.

Kyle hissed, and ran a hand through his hair.

“Don’t start this…”

“Are you?” I demanded.

“No,” he growled, matching my stance.

“Fine,” I snapped, as I turned on my heel and stormed out of the room.

I stopped at the door and swung around to face him. “I am going to work, Kyle.”

“Over my dead body,” he shot back.

“We’ll see.”

“She’s in there?”  I asked in disbelief as I stood outside the honeymoon suite on the top floor of my hotel.

“Oh yep, she’s in there
, kiddo.” Linda nodded towards the door of the suite. “She is refusing to leave until she speaks to you.”

“How the hell did she get in?” I asked, a mixture of confusion and nervousness washing over me.

Since the last incident in my office, I had told security to remove Rachel from the premises.

Yet here she was, in my hotel again, in the bridal suite of all fucking places. I was actually a little afraid of going in there.

“Karen, the new girl in housekeeping, let her upstairs,” Linda said.

Someone was getting fucking fired.

Opening the door, I stepped inside, and groaned.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” Rachel purred.

“I bet,” I muttered, covering my eyes with my hand. I’d seen enough of Rachel’s naked ass to last me a lifetime. “What are you doing, Rachel?”

I strode over to the window, needing something to look at, other than the redhead, in nothing but a black thong.

“Kyle, look at me, please,” she urged, stepping up to me, grinding her breasts against me back.

Slipping her hands in my
pants pocket, she stroked my dick, which was in a state of semi-hardness since Lee’s visit earlier.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Please Stop.”

Stepping sideways, I tried to move away from her, but Rachel predicted my move and pressed me up against the window.

Dropping to her knees, her fingers attacked my belt buckle and my hips thrust forward, without my brain’s permission.

“Rachel, you need… to…stop,” I groaned, trying to push her head away from my junk.

“You’re hard,” she crooned, cupping my dick with her hand, and my eyes closed.

My head fell back against the window.

Jesus, what was happening to me…?

“You’re like a rock; let me put it in my mouth. I’ll make it real good for you.”

The sound of the zipper on my pants opening
, brought me back down to earth, and I tore myself away from her.

“You need to get the hell out of here,” I growled, zipping
up my pants.

“You know you want me, Kyle,” she pouted, as she swaggered towards me, her tits bouncing. “Why are you denying yourself pleasure, and you
know
it will be pleasurable.” She smiled. “You remember that thing I do with my tongue, don’t you?”

I
needed to get the hell out of here, fast
.

I shook my head, and made a dash for the door.

“Well?” Linda asked as I stormed passed her.

“Call security,” I muttered.

I needed to go home, and take a cold, fucking shower.

Lee was in the garden, playing around with Bruno, when I got home, and I knew I should go and speak to her and sort things out, but I couldn’t face her.

I was too fucking shaken up.

I’d been
that
close,
that
fucking close to wrecking everything.

Ashamed and mortified, I headed straight for the shower.

I needed to scrub that bitch off me.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Kyle

My office door opened, and I raised my head from the pile of paperwork on my desk that I was pretending to read.

“It’s over,” Derek announced as he strode over to the mini-bar in the corner of my office. “It’s fucking over, Kyle.”

He grabbed a bottle of Jack from the bar, and then proceeded to guzzle it, straight from the bottle.

“Do I want to
know?” I asked, swinging my chair in his direction.

Damn, he looked like shit.

“I don’t know,” Derek choked out. “Do you want to know how Cam just ripped my fucking heart out of my chest?”

“She broke up with me,” he continued, wiping tears out of his eyes. He took another slug of whiskey. “After two years, she fucking dumped me, and she did it in a fucking text message.”

Aw shit.

I stood up and walked over to him, but shit, I didn’t know what to say.

I settled on an awkward pat on the back.

“You wanna go get drunk?” I asked.

Derek sighed heavily. “Yeah, man, I really fucking do.”

I decided to go shopping.

I took a cab into the city and spent most of the day browsing around the baby aisles, in every store I visited.

It was after seven when I got home with my supplies.

I’d bought a small truck load of baby vests and suits, and I was still despairing over the price of diapers.

Even though I had shopped in the discount stores, and bought the cheapest brands I could find; my necessary shopping spree had virtually wiped out my savings. I estimated that I had about three hundred dollars left.

A horrible niggling thought emerged from my subconscious;
‘What would you have done with two babies? You can’t even afford to support one.’

Trudging up to my bedroom, I tucked the bags of baby clothes and packets of diapers under my bed,
and then headed across the hall to the bathroom.

There was a quailing feeling of despair
, growing in my heart, and I felt stupid, for ever thinking, that I could raise this baby without Kyle’s help.

I needed his help, but I didn’t want his money.

I knew that didn’t make much sense, but I wanted to be financially capable.

I loved him, desperately so, but the thought of asking him for money
, made me feel icky.

Once I was showered and dressed in my pajamas, I went downstairs in search of food.

I was starving and reheated remnants of yesterday’s chili-con-carne in the microwave.

I lapped up the silence, I reveled in it.

For once, the house was quiet, and I ate my meal in peace at the table, while making a mental list of all the other baby equipment I needed to get.

I w
ould need a crib and a buggy. I would need more clothes for the baby and I really wanted of those changing tables, I’d seen displayed in window of that uppity baby store, that I had neither the nerve, nor the bank account to go in.

My stomach knotted up at the sound of a door closing.

Oh great.

Right now, there wasn’t one single person in his household
, who I wanted to run into. Well, Derek was fine; it was the other two I wanted to avoid.

Lately, Cam was scaring me, and Kyle was on my shit list after his sexist comments, although, I wasn’t too mad with him.

He had, after all, given my one of the best orgasms of my life yesterday, but I figured he needed to sweat it out a little before I caved, which eventually, I would, because, let’s face it; I always did.

I heard footsteps in the hall and prayed they would stay out of the kitchen.

I had no such luck.

The kitchen door opened and Cam walked in. Her eyes met mine, and I was immediately concerned.

“What’s wrong?” I demanded, taking in her red-rimmed eyes, and blotchy face. “Why are you crying?”

Cam snuffled. Her chest quivered.

“Can I talk to you, Lee?” she asked in a hoarse voice.

Her shoulders sagged as she came to join me at the table.

Sitting down, she folded her hands on the table and began to twiddle her thumbs, nervously, I think.

“I’ve done something terrible,” she whispered. Her voice cracked. “I’m
still,
doing something terrible.”

I straightened up and reached across to hold her hand. “Cam, you’re starting to scare me,” I confessed.

She was though; she hadn’t been herself in months.

“It’s so bad, Lee,” she breathed, choking up with emotion. “You won’t understand. You’ll hate me.”

I squeezed her hand.

“You can talk to me,” I urged. “You know you can tell me anything. You’re my best friend and I love you. I won’t judge you.”

“How can you still consider me your best friend?” she cried, wiping her eyes with her hands. “I’ve been a bitch.” She sighed and grabbed my hands. “Oh, Lee, I’ve been such a bitch to you. You didn’t deserve it. You don’t deserve the way I’ve been treating you.”

“It’s okay,” I murmured in a soothing voice. “It’s in the past.

“I’m so screwed up right now. My guilt…What I’ve done, I took it out on you.” She blanched, and covered her face with her hands. “Oh, god, what I did to you, trying to force you into that room…”

“Stop, Cam,” I begged, not wanting to bring up the memory of that night. “Just tell me; please tell me what’s going on.”

Cam lowered her hands, and looked at me guiltily.

“When you were in the hospital,” she sobbed. “I…”

The front door slammed, and Kyle and Derek’s voices filled the house.

Cam leapt up and backed out of the kitchen.

“Forget it,” she muttered. “Please, forget what I told you.”

I watched her retreat, absolutely dumbfounded, and irritated.

Whatever was going on with Cam, she was about to tell me
, and those two idiots had interrupted her.

“Wahey, it’s the resident incubator. How’s the bun?” Derek asked, swaying
, as he walked into the kitchen.

I groaned and lowered my head in my hands.

That’s all I needed; a drunk idiot, falling around the place.

“Hey, don’t talk about my bun, you douche.”

My head snapped up, and I doubly groaned.

Make that two drunk idiots...

Kyle staggered through the door, taking two steps, before slamming heavily against the table.

“Whoops,” he laughed, sliding onto a chair.

Shaking his head, his glazed eyes met mine.

A predatory smile crossed his face.

“Princess,” he purred.

“Dude,” Derek said in a joking tone and I turned my head to look at him. H
e was grinning like a lunatic. “Do you think if you blew into her mouth, the kid would pop out?”

Kyle bent over the table snickering. “Pop. Good one, dude.”

“You two are disgusting,” I snapped as I pulled myself up. “So childish.”

I pushed my chair in hard and moved for the door.

Grabbing my waist, Kyle pulled me towards him and rested his face against my belly.

Lifting the fabric of my string top, he rubbed his nose against the swell of my stomach
.

“Kyle,” I warned, holding my hands in the air. “Get off.”

“Mommy’s mad at me, kid,” he mumbled, kissing my belly. “But it’s Uncle Derek’s fault. He’s a bad in-flue-ence on daddy.”

“Other way around, dude,” Derek hiccupped, staggering towards us. “You’re
the one who wanted to go to that last bar.”

Kyle,” I whispered, shocked that he was talking so intimately to my stomach. “Come on, let me go, and go to bed.”

“Now that’s what I’m talking about, baby” Kyle slurred, tightening his hold on my hips.

“Alone,” I growled, embarrassed that he was making a scene in front of Derek. “I meant
, go to bed alone, Kyle.”

“Too much information, guys
,” Derek chuckled as he staggered out of the kitchen. “Night pop, night bun.”

“So beautiful,” Kyle mumbled, stroking my belly with his nose and lips. “So incredibly
, fucking beautiful…”

I groaned and Kyle’s head jerked back.

He stared up at me, wide eyed, and looking completely freaked out.

“Your stomach just kicked me.”

“He’s kicking,” I chuckled and stepped back, pushing my top back down.

“He kicks?” Kyle shook his head, and moved towards me, falling off the chair in the process.

Running his hand over my bump, he looked up at me. “Since when has he been kicking?”

I took his hand and placed it
low on the left side of my belly. “With a few weeks. At first it felt like butterflies, but he’s kicking good and strong now. Can you feel it?”

Kyle nodded eagerly, and pressed his ear to my stomach. “Does it hurt you?”

“No, it’s nice. It’s comforting.”

Pulling his face back, Kyle stared up at me with a strange expression.

The blue of his eyes darkened.

“Marry me?”

“Come again?” I shook my head, to clear my thoughts. He couldn’t have asked me that.

“I asked you to marry me,” he hiccupped, staggering to his feet. “Fucking marry me, Lee.”

“Okay,” I said, stepping around him, heading for the hallway. “You are obviously drunk; I’m going to forget you ever said that.”

I climbed the stairs quickly.

I reached my bedroom door when Kyle stumbled onto the landing.

“Are you going to?” Kyle slurred as he crawled towards me on his hands and knees.

I begrudgingly turned around and helped him up.

“Am I going to what?” I asked, wr
apping my arms around his waist. “Jeez, Kyle, why did you do this to yourself? You can barely stand.”

Stepping away from me, he leaned against the wall. “Are you gonna marry me, princess?”

“Don’t talk stupid,” I snapped. “This is not the time to have this conversation.”

Shoving away from the wall, Kyle staggered towards the bathroom.

“It’s never the right
time,
for you,” he spat. “That’s the fucking problem.”

“Sleep it off
, Kyle,” I growled.

Heading into my room, I slammed the door shut and locked it.
