Soft music began and everyone moved into their seats. A woman in a long robe stepped up to the archway with a smile on her face and a book in her hand.
"Welcome friends and family, please take your seats."
Collin pulled out my chair and I settled in next to Ilene. Drake was on her right with his arm around the back of her chair. They were still an unusual pair, but it seemed to work for them. Collin's hand on my knee pulled my attention to him. He scooted his chair closer to mine, just as a string quartet walked through the crowd playing softly.
Taking their places at the front of the room they changed the song. Doors opening at the back of the room made everyone turn in their seats. First Victoria holding Katie's hand as they walked through the tables. Tears welled in my eyes. Collin handed me his handkerchief to dry my eyes and nose. Next entered Lucy, followed by her mother, Allison.
Lucy was the polar opposite of the twins; shy, quiet, and subdued. I wasn't sure where those traits came from because neither Allison nor Jonathan displayed those tendencies. Briefly I scanned the room, trying to see if Jonathan was in attendance. I was sure he would be with the obsessive nature he developed with Allison these days, constantly trying to win her back after the birth of their daughter.
Victoria, Katie, Lucy, and Allison stood at the front of the room as Juliette and Connor entered together. Everyone stood up at their entrance. Juliette's dress was amazing yet simple. When they reached our table, Collin stepped forward to hug his father and kiss Juliette on the cheek, Max mimicked. Once they stood before the minister we took our seats. Katie's eyes landed on her daddy and she bolted for him.
"Dahey," she gurgled, gaining quiet laughs. Collin was quick to grab her up and bring her to the table with us. She clung to him and laid her head on his shoulder. I rubbed her back and kissed her head.
As I sat back listening to Juliette and Connor vow to love each other for the rest of eternity, my eyes flitted to Victoria who stood with a large smile next to Lucy and Allison. Then I looked to Katie cuddled in Connor's lap. My hands went to the bulge of my abdomen, the bump protecting my baby. A smile spread on my lips, maybe tonight
is a good night to tell Collin he is getting a son.
