“Do you Mark, take Parker as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, for richer or poorer, from this moment to eternity?” Judge Harrison asked.

“I do.” Mark beamed. Janette and I stood on either side of our best friends as they vowed to spend their lives together.

We’d spent months meticulously planning the wedding between performances and recording sessions. The boys looked dashing in their matching black tuxes; Janette and I wore red gowns to match the vivid paintings that surrounded us. I’d been in charge of finding the location; knowing that Max and Parker shared a love of art, I’d found a small, independent gallery to rent for the ceremony. It was a beautiful, modern place for a beautiful, modern couple.

Judge Harrison led Mark and Parker through the exchanging or rings and then pronounced them husband and husband. Cheers erupted as they kissed, and then the party moved to the adjoining room to start the reception.

“Have you ever seen two people so in love?” I asked Janette as Mark and Parker greeted their guests.

“Actually, I have.” She said, pointing behind me. I turned and saw Max approaching. The D.J. started the first song and Mark pulled Parker onto the makeshift dance floor.

“Ladies, you look beautiful as always.” Max told us. He wrapped an arm around my shoulder and kissed me on the cheek. “Janette, Caleb had to step out and return a phone call but he said to tell you he’ll be right back. Can I get you all a drink?” He offered.

“That would be great baby.” I agreed. He set off for the champagne fountain while Janette and I settled down at a table.

“So what do you think? Are you going to be the next to walk down the aisle?” Janette asked with a teasing grin.

“I don’t know, you can Caleb seem awfully happy together. You might beat me to it.” I replied. Janette and the private investigator had been seeing each other for the last five months and I’d never seen her so happy. I liked the two of them together; Caleb was easy going and considerate, exactly what she needed.

“Caleb and I are having fun.” Janette told me. “We’re not taking the relationship too seriously and, so far, that works for us. To be honest I don’t care if I ever get married, as long as I’m happy.”

“Are you? Happy I mean?” I asked.

“I’m downright giddy.” She replied. “What about you?”

“Blissful,” I smiled. “But I’m not quite ready to run down the aisle.”

“Have you decided where you’re going next?” She continued.

My contract with Jersey Boys was about to expire. Like Dylan had predicted, I’d won a Tony Award for Best New Female Performer and I’d already been offered three different roles in other productions. I was having a hard time choosing between them.

“I don’t know,” I confessed. “To be honest, I’m leaning towards Rent. Unlike the other offers, it has the added bonus of getting me out of Lincoln Theater.”

“I think that’s a good idea.” She told me. “It’s time for a fresh start. That place holds too many bad memories.”

“I’m going to see the show with Marion on Tuesday,” I explained. “I’ll decide after I see it. Would you like to join us?”

“I’d love to, but I’m going to be in the studio all week. With any luck, we’ll have the final cut of the album ready by Friday.”

“I can’t wait to hear it!” I squealed. “I’m so proud of you!”

“I’m proud of you too,” she smiled.

Max came to the table and handed us each a glass of champagne. Mark and Parker finished their first dance as a married couple and the room erupted in applause. The D.J. started a second slow song and other couples began filing on to the dance floor.

Max took me by the hands and lifted me to my feet. “Wanna dance?”

“I’d love to.”

Max lead me onto the dance floor and I fell into his arms. We moved to the music and he looked down at me with a smile.

“The wedding was beautiful, you and Janette did a fantastic job.”

“Thank you,” I replied. “Mark and Parker deserved the best.”

“Do you think you’ll be up for planning another one… say in two or three years?” He asked casually.

Joy coursed through my body. “You mean for us?” I asked.

He nodded. “When the time is right, of course. But I see us ending up here, don’t you?”

“I can’t imagine anything else,” I told him as a few happy tears fell from my eyes.

Max spun me in an elegant turn and then pulled me close again. I rested my head against his shoulder and, despite what I’d said to Janette about not being ready, I started fantasizing about my wedding day.
