With the threat of Arae neutralized, world attention focused on their lineage. Although there was still some skepticism, most of the world’s nations now accepted the truth of the discovery: extraterrestrial life exists. Contrary to governmental theory, people accepted the reality of the find with rational logic and self-control, rather than panic and mass hysteria. The age of governmental cover-up was now over.

As
Interpol’s investigation came to a close, the sight of the golden pyramid was reopened for study. With the crystal scepter in hand, Javi, Jack and Duni entered the golden chamber and began their work.

“Nice of the boys to clean up the broken glass for us,” Jack said.

“It’s just a shame those idiots dropped it,” Javi responded mildly irritated.

“I heard the Department of Tourism in Greenland has commissioned a craftsman to create a new top for the coffin,” Jack said. “It would be really cool if they could place Zeus on display much the same way they did with Poseidon.”

“That probably won’t happen, Jack,” Duni responded.  “Poseidon was sealed in with some kind of embalming fluid that preserved him, so placing him on display hasn’t created any issues with deterioration. Zeus, on the other hand, is all bones. I’m certain they’ll also place him on display, but in an environmentally controlled case so his remains don’t deteriorate further. His crystal coffin will probably be placed on display beside him.”

Jack nodded in understanding, then turned his attention to the golden altar. He stood over it and examine
d a tapered hole in the center. A circle of light seemed to illuminate it. He looked up and noted the hole in the ceiling that was casting its light onto the altar.

“Javi, what do you make of this,” he asked.

Javi moved away from the hieroglyphs he was studying and came to the Altar. Looking down at the hole, then up at the light from the ceiling, he shrugged his shoulders in confusion.

“I don’t know. Obviously, something was placed in there, but I can’t imagine what it could be,” he said as he examined the holes.

As the two studied the mystery at the altar, Duni examined one of the walls that had interesting hieroglyphics and engraved pictures. Suddenly, he smiled.

“Hey, you guys gotta see this,” he shouted excitedly.

Javi and Jack stood next to him and studied the wall. Instantly, Javi’s expression changed to shock. He ran his hand along the golden wall, digesting its meaning.

“I can’t believe this. If I’m reading this right, that’s not just an altar and this isn’t just a burial chamber,” he said, his voice now filled with mystery.

Jack waited impatiently. A moment later, he blurted, “Hey Javi, you wanna to spit it out. The suspense is killing me.”

Javi grinned, then continued, “Sorry, I guess I got caught up in the magnitude of the discovery. Anyway, look at these engravings. Do you recognize anything familiar?”

Jack and Duni now smiled in understanding. Javi continued:

“That’s right. This isn’t just a burial chamber. This was built to be a beacon. If you look close, that diagram clearly shows a beam of light shooting up through this chamber, then reflecting off the pyramid
’s walls and continuing out into space. I believe that beam was supposed to somehow signal someone or something,” he said, now pointing high up on the wall.

Duni looked back at the altar, then to the diagram.

“I don’t get it. How’s that block of gold supposed to generate a beam of light?” he asked.

“The block won’t,” Jack replied. “But I’m betting that scepter will.”

Walking back to the altar, he picked up the scepter and studied the handle. He then looked at the hole in the table. With Javi and Duni now standing at the altar and watching, Jack lowered the scepter’s handle carefully into the tapered hole on the altar’s top. The fit was nearly perfect. Now sticking straight up, the scepter pointed toward the ceiling.

“So now what?” Duni asked, watching impatiently.

Jack placed his hands around the blade of the scepter, and said, “Now this.”

He pushed down hard, driving the handle tightly into the hole. Instantly, an intense beam of energy shot out from the end of the scepter. As it struck the tapered hole in the ceiling, it exited out and radiat
ed up through the pyramid’s walls.

“Quick, follow me,” Jack said.

He turned and darted out of the chamber, Javi and Duni followed close behind. As they stepped outside, the brilliance of light was nearly blinding. The three squinted hard and shielded their eyes with their hands.

“I don’t know how visible
in space this would be, but I think this was their intension,” Jack said.

“Absolutely, Jack. Now why don’t we shut the damn thing off before we blind someone,” Javi retorted.

The three rushed back into the room and removed the crystal sword from the altar. They stood in silence, momentarily considering the significance of the discovery. Duni turned to Javi and shook his head in confusion.

“I don’t get it? It’s not like the beacon could be seen very far, I’m guessing only a couple of miles above the pyramid, maybe a little higher at night,” he stated. “Who could they possibly be signaling?

Javi shook his head.

“I don’t know, but I’m betting the answer isn’t too far away,” he responded cryptically.

The three walk over to the wall that held the ancient diagram. Hieroglyphics were engraved just below it. The room fell suddenly quiet as they began to translate their meaning. Within minutes, both Javi and Duni began to nod as they read. They smiled with satisfaction and mumbled agreeably. Javi finished and stared at Duni, waiting for him to complete the final hieroglyphics. Duni’s eyes suddenly widened. He turned to Javi and grinned.

“We
wait on their return,” he said.

Jack stared at the two, slightly annoyed.

“What is this, a private clique or something? You two going to let me in on the big secret or keep the mystery all to yourselves?” he said, sarcastically. “Wait on whose return?” he asked.

“Sorry Jack, I guess we kind of got caught up in the excitement,” Javi replied. “Those were the last words in the statement. It appears that Zeus and Poseidon did indeed crash land and were hoping to be rescued. They built the beacon as a signal and were waiting on their comrades to return.”

“Am I missing something? We kinda figured on all that stuff already. It’s not really new. What’re you two so excited over?” Jack pressed further.

“We can’t be sure, but those hieroglyphics claim that they crashed in some kind of spacecraft,” Duni responded.

“Yeah… but that’s nothing profound. How else would they’ve gotten here?” Jack shot back in sarcastic tone.

“A
ND… the spacecraft is located somewhere nearby,” Javi added.

Jack smiled.

“Now that
is
news,” he blurted in understanding.

Javi nodded and said, “Hence our excitement: This ride isn’t ending. It’s just beginning.”
