Her large brown eyes widened and she braced her hands to push herself to sit up straighter. “Two months, Jonathan I can’t…” He silenced her argument kissing her soft mouth again and set the cup on the table. Then shifting the covers, revealing the whiskey smooth skin covering his child, he dipped his head then brushed his lips over her bare tiny mound covering his child. Her warm skin comforted his heart.

“Ye can and ye will stay in the bed for two months.” He slid both hands under her as she continued to adjust herself. “I said no moving, Mo Ru’n.” He lifted her up until he saw comfort on her face and settled her along the pillows. “Ye doona move. I’ll do that.”

Kenya agreed with a nod, distracted. “I’m gonna lose my job, Jonathan.”

He raised his eyes and tilted a stare at her argument.

“Kenya Blakemore, you have an estate to run now. Have ye forgotten already yer me wife?”

She looked over to the door then back to him. “I need to work, Jonathan.”

He thought for a minute. “The firm. You have more than enough credentials to handle a few accounts. And Jamie’s looking into opening a branch in Dublin. You can take over this office while he gets that one off the ground.”

“You’re serious? Run the entire office?” she asked, uncertain of his offer. Did she think she was going back to the states after they were married?

“Don’t think you can do it, Kenya?”

“If Jamie’s okay with it, I’d love to take over the office.” She rubbed a hand over her stomach then lifted her warm eyes to him. “The men that attacked me, how did they know I was in Ireland?”

“They were Brian’s men. Tell me the truth, Kenya. Did any one of them touch you before I got there?”

She turned her face away picking at the hand rail on the bed. “They held my legs open in the back seat. I struggled and that’s when I felt the cramp around the baby.” He fisted his hand beside the bed and knew what he did was the only thing that would give him satisfaction. “Judge’s bark startled them and they dropped my legs.”

He fisted his fingers beside his thigh. Thinking of the men laying bloody on the ground after he thought Kenya lost the baby, Jonathan had no remorse for the way he handled that situation. Mess with his and he'll mess with you.

“I took care of it. No one’s gonna hurt ye again, ever.”

“I saw how you took care of it Jonathan. Is that how you take care of every problem?”

“I told you, I will walk hand in hand with death to protect you, and now that you’re carrying my bairn…I am death to anyone that threatens that.”

“I don’t want you hurt. I can’t say that enough, Jonathan.”

“I can’t apologize for what I am. You know this.”

“I’ll tell you what,” she said face serious. “Don’t make light of my concern for you. I mean it, Blakemore. I’m gonna worry. If you tell me you’ll be home at seven and eight rolls around and I haven’t heard from you. I’m coming for whoever kept you from being with your family. And they’ll be no name taking just erasing. You’re not making me a widow without somebody else paying the price.”

Quiet, as everyone stared at the printout of the baby a silence filled the space. Sophie crossed the floor and everyone watched her slide lower down beside Kenya on the bed. The two women held hands resting them over Kenya’s heart.

“A woman never forgives the woman that takes away her little boy. And when I thought you walked out on him when he needed you most I lost all respect for you, Kenya.” Sophie brushed a hand over Kenya’s hair; she leaned in to kiss her forehead before she took a breath and settled those alarming blue eyes on her. “Then I learn you gave up everything to clear my son’s name and protect his child, you have no idea what that meant to me. You walked away from your own happiness for him. Nobody saw what I saw in that suite when you paced like a half-crazed lion waiting to hear from my son. Only a woman in love reacts that way.”

“I love your son, Sophie. And this child was created out of the friendship that allowed the love to grow between us.”

“She slammed her fist in me face when I tried to keep her from Jonathan in the tunnels,” Jamie offered and everyone laughed lifting the heavy vibe off the room.

Jonathan stood as the door eased open and one of the nurses poked her head in.

“Mr. Jonathan Blakemore. Can I speak with you, outside?”

Hurried looks were passed around the room as a uniformed police officer filled the doorway.

“Jamie Blakemore as well,” the tall man added holding the door open wider.

Jonathan spoke close to Kenya’s face and she clutched his hand. Her eyes darting over his features terrified of what she was witnessing. Jonathan was going to jail for shooting those men in the parking lot.

"
Ta' mo chroi' istigh ionat
. I need you to be strong
Mo Ru’n
." Jonathan eased his left hand beneath the hospital sheet caressing their baby under the palm of his hand and ran his thumb back and forth over her naval. Kenya ran her right hand along his mouth tracing the line of his lips as he spoke, their foreheads pressed together under his warm breath. "Give me your left hand." She wiggled her hand under his on her bare skin realizing what he did and fought the tears lining up to spill down her face. He looped his forth finger around hers pressing the space where their wedding bands should be on their bare fingers over their child. "You hold everything I am under your heart, Mo ghra fior."

She gulped against his mouth caressing her senses more than her flesh. "
Ta' mo chroi' istigh ionat
. I'll get you out, I promise."

"No, Kenya, take care of our child tucked away beneath your heart. Let me handle this," he said quieting her protests, flexing his fingers over her skin. "I shot those men to save your life. I'll answer for it."

The hospital bed dipped when she leaned forward. "I love you, Jonathan," whispering close to his ear, "We, your child and wife, love you forever."

"Don’t cry, Pretty Lady." He kissed her mouth soft and gentle before ducking his head beneath the covers and kissed her warm skin below her naval. The moment held a lifetime of promises. She would hold him to fulfilling everyone. Jonathan spoke against her stomach, "You're a Blakemore, made from love, friendship and trust. You carry my blood and my love in your heart. Share it with your mother while I'm away. You two are my soul. I love you both."

Kenya held the tears in best she could until his cologne was the only reminder that he'd been in the room. Jonathan was gone. This was her family now and she wouldn’t let them down.

“They’ll be okay, Kenya. Lay still or you’ll lose the bairn. Jonathan will take care of this, but you have to stop talking.”

“They’re taking them away Sophie, to jail.” She wrestled under Sophie’s hold.

“But until we know why, don’t give them information we don’t know if they have or not.” Sophie turned to Julia. “Stay with Kenya, I’ll go with the men. Don’t let her get up.”

Everything she’s ever wanted she held in her hands for five seconds before it got snatched away.

“Honey, you have to worry about the baby. Whatever happens let them take care of it. You’re the only one who can protect your baby.”

She shook her head. Her world began to unravel in wet knotted ball of yarn. “Julia when is it gonna stop?”

At that moment, two nurses rushed in and spoke to Jonathan still in the doorway. He shot a glance at Jaime then Sophie.

“What’s going on?” She craned her neck around Sophie’s back to see the nurse pointing down the hall.

“Julia, stay with Kenya. Seamus went into Cardiac arrest.”

“No,” she said, swiping tears rolling down her face. Julia closed her arms around her as a tall shadow fell over the room from the doorway.

“What are you doing here? How did you even know I was here?”

“When you left, your man came and told me what you needed. I know it took steel balls for him to ask me, but you’re my girl. Nobody messes with my girl.”

“Randall!” Kenya pushed up holding the tube in her arms as a face she never thought to see came through the door.

“My cousin didn’t know Randall’s been helping me since the ski trip.” Fiona stepped in front of Randall. “We’re gonna get them out don’t worry, but I have to get down to Seamus.”

“Go,” she said, feeling the sense of hope returning. “Fiona, Randall…thank you.”

“You’re carrying my first niece or nephew. We’ll get through this together.”
